Hanoi Vietnam Received 13 03 2023 Revised 10 04 2023 Accepted 06 05 2023 ABSTRACT Objective This study aims to provide a database on the association between risk factors and diabetic retinopathy. Methods This cross-sectional descriptive study analyzed the characteristics of 148 type 2 diabetic patients undergoing inpatient treatment. Results The prevalence of diabetic retinopathy was with the highest proportion of mild non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy 50 . Patients over 60 years old and those with a disease duration of more than 10 years had the highest risk of developing diabetic retinopathy accounting for and respectively. Patients with poor glycemic control had a higher risk of developing retinopathy than those with good blood glucose control. The risk of developing diabetic retinopathy increased by times in patients with underweight times in patients with overweight and times in patients with obesity times in patients with hypertension and times in patients with dyslipidemia. Conclusion Nearly half of the patients had diabetic retinopathy and the risk factors for developing diabetic retinopathy included age over 60 disease duration glycemic control nutritional status underweight overweight and obesity hypertension and dyslipidemia.
