Results indicated that the Cayenne plants grown on rows covered with dark plastic were less infected with PMWV as compared with those on rows non-covered. We found that Cayenne originated from China was more seriously infected with PMWV than that from Thailand 18 and 28 infected plants for each. Cayenne plants had been reduced the fruit productivity and quality when they were infected with virus leading the farmers could lose 10-15 million dong ha in estimation. Strategy for controlling the disease is to reduce the infected plants to inhibit the ants to enter the pineapple fields for co-colonize with mealybugs and to control the mealybugs. Results of the experiment were indicated that to use methidathion Supracide 40EC could control the mealybug well leading to reduce the disease incidence and delayed the disease symtoms. However a plan for cultivation of free-virus pineapples should be concerned at national level in order to prevent the collapse of the pineapple developing program recently.
