This review provides new insight into the RFI and its relationship with productive traits in different species of poultry. In poultry breeding programs, use of the RFI in selection procedures as a negative trait must be adopted to produce an efficient breed with low feed costs and high productivity. From the point of view of an environmental perspective, selecting birds with lower RFI reduces emissions of ammonia and greenhouse gases from poultry houses. |
