Fe-SBA-15 and Fe-SBA-16 ordered mesoporous materials were synthesized via hydrothermal treatment by in situ incorporating Fe(III) oxalate complex species into framework of SBA-15 and SBA-16. The prepared samples were characterized by different techniques such as XRD, BET, UV- Vis and TEM. The obtained results showed that both Fe-SBA-15 and Fe-SBA-16 samples have an ordered mesoporous structure. The hexagonal symmetry of Fe-SBA-15 and cubic ones of Fe-SBA- 16 were not affected by incorporation of Fe into SBA-15 and SBA-16 frameworks. The catalytic activity of these samples was tested in the oxidation of red phenol. I - INTRODUCTION After the discovery of ionic surfactant-templated ordered mesoporous silica MCM-41 1 a breakthrough in the field of mesoporous material synthesis was the design of a new class of non-ionic surfactant-templated ordered mesoporous silica SBA-n such as SBA-15 and SBA-16 2-4 . SBA-15 possesses hexagonal pores in a 2D array with long 1D channel P6mm plane group . SBA-16 is a material with 3D cubic arrangement of mesopores corresponding to the Im3m space group. Both materials have larger pore size thicker wall the latter leading to an increased stability for these structures. Mesoporous silica SBA-15 and SBA-16 materials have shown as high potential adsorbents for efficient removal of volatile organic compounds. Introduction of metals into mesoporous materials opens an opportunity for the design of catalytically active sites inside the uniform channels with controllable nano-scale pore diameter.
