Although this is included as short-story writing you might also be able to use this prompt as an Autobiographical Incident. With a few modifications you could also use this for a Firsthand Biography Sketch. The Trick The Revenge This is written as a story. This is a complex assignment and might take more than two drafts to complete properly. Tension and conflict are natural subjects for this story. Emphasize to students that they need to engage the reader. Make sure that students write strong openings for their story. Make sure that the opening is appropriate for the story. Have students work on pulling the whole story together in the conclusion. Tell students to try to get an ending with a twist. Students should describe characters well. Dialogue can be used to develop characters. This is also a good essay to show characters motivations. A Day with My Friends Tell students that although their essays should be based on fact they are welcome to take some poetic license with their writing. Students may want to write fairly long stories. This is fine as long as they don t lose focus. They will need to work even harder on organization if their essays go beyond the standard five paragraphs.
