The SSI appropriation includes funds for Federal benefit payments, administrative expenses, beneficiary services, and research and demonstration projects. In total, the President’s Budget request for FY 2013 is $58,243,000,000. However, this includes $18,200,000,000 made available for the first quarter of FY 2013 in the FY 2012 appropriation. The appropriation language provides SSA with its remaining appropriation for FY 2013, $40,043,000,000—the total amount requested for FY 2013 less the advance already received. Similarly, in addition to the amount above, the request includes an advance appropriation of $19,300,000,000 for Federal benefit payments in the first quarter of FY 2014
