So then you may think that the population-poverty-resource nexus would be a focus of attention among development economists. If so, you would be wrong. Even in studies on the semi-arid regions of sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian sub-continent (poverty-ridden land masses, inhabited by some 2 billion people and experiencing the largest additions ever known to their population; Tables 1-2), the nexus is largely absent. For example,Birdsall (1988),Kelley (1988) and Schultz (1988) are authoritative surveys by economic demographers on population growth in poor countries. None touches environmental matters. Mainstream demography (as reflected in, say, the journal Population and Development Review) also makes light of environmental stress facing poor communities. | Reproductive Health and Partner Violence Guidelines Family Violence Prevention Fund Creating Futures Without Violence www.endabuse.org An Integrated Response to Intimate Partner Violence and Reproductive Coercion By Linda Chamberlain PhD MPH and Rebecca Levenson MA PRODUCED BY Family Violence Prevention Fund FUNDED BY Administration for Children and Families U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Office on Women s Health U.S. Department of Health and Human Services With Special Thanks to Frances E.
