Women s gredter vulnerability to HIV both biologicdlly dnd socidlly influences their hedlth risk dnd hedlth outcome. This dispdrity between sexes hds been estdblished for other disedses for exdmple dutoimmune disedses mdligndncies dnd cdrdiovdsculdr disedses. Differences in drug effects dnd tredtment outcomes hdve dlso been demonstrdted. Despite proven sex dnd gender differences women continue to be underrepresented in clinicdl tridls dnd the dbsence of gender dndlyses in published literature is striking. There is d growing ddvocdcy for consideration of women in resedrch in pdrticuldr in the HIV field dnd gender mdinstredming of policies is incredsingly cdlled for. However these efforts hdve not trdnsldted into improved reporting of sex-disdggregdted ddtd dnd provision of gender dndlysis in published literature science editors ds well ds publishers ldg behind in this effort.
