Citrus peels are a rich source of essential oils which can be extracted by using a hydrodistillation process. The extracts contain D-limonene (70-90%) are major component. The essential oil from blood orange results the great amount of antimicrobial properties which are used against the bacteria (E. coli, B. aureus, S. typhimurim, L. moncytogene and E. faecalis).
