Nuôi cá lóc bông (Channa micropeltes) trong lồng bè đã được bắt đầu từ 1960s trong khi nuôi cá lóc đen (Channa striatus) được áp dụng từ thập kỷ 90 cùng thế kỷ và trở thành phổ biến ở vùng ảnh hưởng lũ hàng năm ở Đồng bằng sông Cửu Long hiện nay. Tuy nhiên, việc nuôi những loài cá này tại địa bàn phụ thuộc rất nhiều vào nguồn thủy sản tự nhiên bản địa, nhất là thức ăn trong khi trữ lượng thủy sản tự nhiên ở vùng nước ngọt dần bị cạn kiệt do nhiều nguyên nhân | KHẢO SÁT CÁC MÔ HÌNH NUỏICÁ LÓC Channa micropeltes và Channa striatus Ở ĐỒNG BẰNG SÔNG CỬU LONG SURVEY OF THE FARMING OF SNAKEHEAD FISH Channa micropeltes AND Channa striatus IN THE MEKONG DELTA Lê Xuân Sinh và Đỗ Minh Chung Khoa Thủy sản Đại học Cần Thơ Email lxsinh@ctu. edu. vn ABSTRACT Cage culture of giant snakehead Channa micropeltes was started in 1960s while the farming of common snakehead fish Channa striatus was started in 1990s and spread in the flood-prone areas of the Mekong Delta now. However the farming of these fish species in inland water bodies heavily depends on wild indigenous fishes especially for feed while the wild fish stock in freshwater bodies of the delta has been rapidly depleted due to many reasons. This study was conducted from January to Octoder 2009 by investigating 71 farmers of giant snakehead and 544 farmers of common snakehead in 9 provinces. It was aimed to provide a better understanding for development of snakehead fish industry in the Mekong Delta. The results showed that the cultured area or volume and the yield of fish varied strongly between 5 types of fish farming system. In order to harvest kg of snakehead fish about kg of trash fish are used. All of the snakehead farmers used fresh water trash fish in flooding season September to December but about 56 7 of total amount of trash fish for snakehead fish culture was from marine capture yearly. The major difficulties faced by snakehead fish farmers are 1 lack of capital 2 pollution of cultured area and difficult to treat the fish diseases 3 unstable price of table fish and 4 increasing price of trash fish. These difficulties have resulted in a decreasing profit and an increasing rate of successful farmers. If the cost of self-captured trash fish was not taken into account the rate of successful farmers of giant snakehead in 2008 was 60-80 per crop but it was 40-50 in the case of the cost self-captured trash fish was included.
