tailieunhanh - Graft polymerization of acrylic acid onto bamboo fiber initiated by Ceric ammonium nitrate

Graft polymerization of acrylic acid on bamboo fiber using ceric ammonium nitrate (CAN) as initiator in aqueous medium has been studied. Infrared (IR) spectroscopy was used to confirm the graft copolymer formation. Some effect factors on the graft reaction were also studied in detail. The optimal condition for grafting acrylic acid (AA) onto bamboo fiber was CAN M, AA 10 g, HNO M, temperature 45o C and time 240 min. | Journal of Chemistry Vol. 43 5 P. 2005 GRAFT POLyMERIZATION OF ACRyLIC ACID ONTO BAMBOO FIBER INITIATED By CERIC AMMONIUM NITRATE Received 20 October 2004 TRAN MANH Luc1 NGUyEN VAN KHQI2 NGUyEN THANH TUNG2 1Danang Training University institute of Chemistry VAST SUMMARy Graft polymerization of acrylic acid on bamboo fiber using ceric ammonium nitrate CAN as initiator in aqueous medium has been studied. I - INTRODUCTION II - EXPERIMENTAL Grafting of vinyl monomers to improve some properties of fibers has been intensively studied 1-6 . It can be used in various form such as fiber non woven and yarn. The property that has been focus of enhancement are high absorbency ion exchange capabilities dyeability resistance to microorganisme light flame resistance antimicrobial property water proof and oil resistance characteristics etc depending on the the nature of the monomers 2 3 . Specifically acrylic acid having a carboxylic function group coupled with its hydrophilicity is known to improve ionexchange and water sorbency properties of grafted fibers 1 . Bamboo is widely distributed in the world especially in China and South- East Asian. In Vietnam bamboo cultures provide very important materials for house and furniture construction and pulp resource for papers. In this work the graft polymerization of acrylic acid onto bamboo fiber was studied in detail. 1. Materials Bamboo fiber was ground into average size of mm. Acrylic acid AA ceric ammonium nitrate CAN nitric acid HNO3 Merck were used as received. Hydroquinone sulfuric acid sodium hydroxide were of laboratory-grade chemicals. Solvents were dried and distilled before use. 2. Pretreatment for bamboo fiber Bamboo fiber was .
