tailieunhanh - Chemical constituents of the roots of Codonopsis pilosula

From the roots of Codonopsis sp. (Campanulaceae), diacetylenic polyolefinic alcohol lobetyol together with 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde and bis-(2-ethylhexyl)- phthalate were isolated. Their structures have been identified by MS, 1 H- and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. | Journal of Chemistry Vol. 41 No. 4 P. 119 -123 2003 CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF THE ROOTS OF CODONOPSIS PILOSULA Received 10-4-2003 TRINH THI THUy1 TRAN VAN SUNG1 L. Vietnamese name Đẳng sâm or Phòng đẳng sâm is a very common traditional crude drug in China and Vietnam 1 . The plant has been used as a remedy for increase of appetite psychoneurosis fat fatigue dyspepsia etc. or as a substitute for ginseng root in traditional Chinese and Vietnamese medicine 1 . The constituents of Codonopsis sp. have been frequently studied in China. As regards the constituents of these plants triterpenes phytosterol furaldehydes alkaloids and sugar as well as some amino acides and trace elements have been reported 2 3 . In our programm for investigation of important Vietnamese medicinal plants we have examined the drug Codonopsis sp. The present communication deal with the isolation and structural elucidation of compounds 1 2 and 3 from the roots of Codonopsis sp. The results of this study can help determining Codonopsis species used in Vietnamese traditional medicine. II - RESULTS AND DISCUSSION An aqueous solution of the MeOH extract from the roots of Codonopsis sp. was subjected to the partition with n-hexan EtOAc and n-BuOH succesively. The ethyl acetate extract was separated by column chromatography on highly porous polymer resin Diaion HP-20 . After removing a large amount of sucrose and other carbonhydrates g by eluting with H2O the column was eluted with 70 MeOH and MeOH .
