Between January and October of 2003 the Working Group gathered information from the medical literature held discussions among working group members and consulted with a diverse group of experts to address this question. A preliminary report of the Group s findings was presented at a meeting held in Seattle WA on September 22nd and 23rd 2003. This report summarizes these findings incorporating discussions at the Sept 22-23 meeting. Asthma is a chronic lung condition characterized by airway inflammation hyperreactivity and reversible airway obstruction. The disease is found disproportionately among children and minorities and
