Rationale It is evident that English is getting popular all over the world and used in all fields, such as, economics, politics, arts, technology, etc. Especially, the development of internet has been giving English chances to affirm English’s vital role in the daily life. As a result, a lot of countries in the world including Vietnam consider English as a major subject in their education. We can not deny that English language as the others develop with the development of the society. Thus, the goal of teaching and learning English changes so as to suit with modern life. In other words, each. | Looking at figure 7, more a half of students likes ‘learn grammar from the teachers’ explanations, then do exercises in the textbook’. It means they are interested in deductive approach instead of learning by themselves through self-study books. Though deductive approach has its own advantage, in some extent, it is not really suitable with the goal of teaching English nowadays, teaching for communicative competence. In contrast, only 13% of the students prefer ‘find out the grammar points by yourself from the situation given by the teachers’. In other words, they like discovering grammar rules, the characteristics of inductive grammar learning approach. The others (27%) enrich their grammar knowledge by reading newspapers, listening to the radio, etc. This reflects that they are fond of authentic materials. In their opinions, learning from the daily life seems to be more interesting and effective. That brings advantages for the application of inductive approach for teaching grammar. Through the analysis above, it can be seen that teaching grammar inductively will be satisfactory. However, its effect depends much on the teachers.
