Deletion of CSM1 leads to decreased sporulation efficiency malformation of spores and stoppage of spore germination. Csm1p was identified as a component of the monopolin complex which associates with kinetochores during meiosis I and prevents sister kinetochore bi-orientation Rabitsch et al. 2003 . Our results indicated a role of Csm1p in early steps of premeiotic DNA replication Wysocka et al. 2004 . The presented data on the identification of proteins associated with histidine-tagged Csm1p in a pull-down assay indicate that Csm1p is a component of a number of functionally connected protein complexes. The proteins classified as associated with Csm1p belong to functional families involved in sporulation intracellular transport cytoskeleton organization and cellular morphogenesis.
