There are several actors involved in the development of marketing communications and their subsequent dissemination to the target audience. The key relevant actors are illustrated in Figure 3. Food manufacturers and food retailers (and their respective trade associations and representative bodies) range from large global food and non-alcoholic beverage producers to small local vendors and kiosks, including supermarkets and quick- service restaurant chains. These organizations typically hire marketing firms or use their own in-house marketing resources to create marketing campaigns which are then disseminated via media organizations and content or access providers. Rappold Preface The premise for writing this guide came from a Forest Service document originally published in 1992 and reprinted in 1993 A Marketing Guide for Manufacturers Entrepreneurs of Secondary-Processed Wood Products in the Northeastern United States by Ed Cesa http pubs detail. cfm id 2557 . That document still provides marketing concepts and guidance for manufacturers of secondary-processed wood products in the Northeastern United States. After a number of discussions the authors believed that a similar publication that focused specifically on primary processors was needed. This publication is the result of those conversations. This new publication will provide small and medium sized sawmills and primary processors with many marketing ideas and concepts.
