Interest in aesthetics in computer graphics has lately manifested itself in an area called non- photorealistic rendering (NPR). Relaxing the constraints of photorealism can produce more informative images. NPR uses artistic techniques to emphasize features, expose subtleties, and omit distracting extraneous information. Graphics such as architectural drawings and medi- cal illustrations are sometimes better expressed with sketches than with photorealistic images.
