In early October 2010, two severe floods in a row (from 1st to 6th Oct and from October 14 to 18) occurred in five central provinces, including Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue. Ha Tinh is where The most serious damage, including Huong Khe and Vu Quang, poor districts of Ha Tinh province, very serious damage. Flooding to people, was poor become poorer and very much influenced their lives, the daily activities and production. | - In Duc Lien commune, the main wells are the dug ones, but at present, for dug wells hardly ensure enough water in dry season, people have a tendency to drill wells. The quality of dug wells, in general, is good and the water can be used directely, however, there are not a little number of dug wells the water of which is stinking, has scum on being used, especially to those wells that are submerged by flood, the water cannot be used immediately after flood recedes. The quality of water basically is good as per the organoleptic evaluation, however, there are still many wells having the signal of contamination, the water after pumping has scum and turn into yellow color, and can hardly be used directely (for example, the drilled wells in Hoi Trung, Lien Hoa hamlets etc). When dry season comming, dug wells have the signal of lacking water, therefore, may people tend to use drilled wells, but most water of drilled wells have the signal of iron contamination and can hardly be used directely. The depth of dug wells is often 7-8m, but maximum 13-14m. Drilled well is often 20-25m or deeper, in some places it is even 30m or more than that.
