tailieunhanh - A NEW TYPE OF FURNITURE ESD AND ITS IMPLICATIONS

To be sure there is satisfaction in successfully assembling a model; and some understanding to be gained in seeing how the flat parts go together to make a 3-D form. Yet after a few successful attempts, one begins to think about how a model could be changed: What if you could create something that might not have ever existed, such as a three-headed raptor with wings? What if you could design your own cabinet or table, instead of accepting the stuffy conventional models that come in the box? In short, with a store-bought model you are limited to. | A New Type of Furniture ESD and Its Implications Douglas C. Smith D. C. Smith Consultants P. O. Smith AT T Bell Labs 200 Laurel Ave. 2K415 Middletown NJ 07748 Phone 908-957-5008 0-700-323-3956 Abstract An investigation of an instance of upset in electronic equipment has led to the characterization of a new form of indirect furniture ESD. This ESD takes place inside of a chair cushion and radiates fields from metal chair legs. The radiated fields are very strong and can result in upset of nearby equipment. Results of the investigation including measurement methods field data and analysis are presented. Background An Interesting Problem In the course of investigating an equipment malfunction the cause was traced to radiated fields due to ESD internal to a nearby chair. The only evidence of this happening was the radiated electromagnetic fields sensed by monitoring equipment. Initially the equipment problem was difficult to diagnose because there was no obvious cause for it as far as the equipment operators were concerned. Normal ESD precautions had been taken and there was no observed ESD present. The only clue to the problem was that the malfunction seemed to be related to a person rising from a chair the only one in the room. Instrumentation was set .
