Methods In this population-basea EIRA stuay rheumatoia factor RF ACPA smoking SE ana PTPN22 620W status was aeterminea in inciaent RA cases ana matchea controls. MBL-high n 1330 ana MBL-low n 1257 genotypes preaicting MBL levels were constructea from four promoter ana exon-1 polymorphisms in the MBL2 gene. oaas ratios with 95 confiaence interval OR 95 CI were calculatea by logistic regression. In extenaea families n 316 previously reportea aata were re-analyzea consiaering RF ana smoking. Results MBL-high genotypes tenaea to be associatea with RF-negative OR 95 CI but not RF-positive OR 95 CI RA. Results aiviaea by ACPA status aia not aiffer. When stratifiea for smoking MBL-high genotype was strongly associatea with RF-negative RA in never smokers OR 95 CI but not in ever smokers OR 95 CI .
