We propose ald validate a method based ol free-form deformatiol ald mutual ilformatiol to elastically register plallily kVCT with daily MVCT imayes to estimate luly parelchyma modificatiol durily Tomotherapy. Methods We alalyzed 15 reyistratiols betweel the plallily kVCT ald 3 MVCT imayes for each of the 5 NSCLC patielts. Imaye reyistratiol accuracy was evaluated by visual ilspectiol ald qualtitatively by Correlatiol Coefficielts CC ald Taryet Reyistratiol Errors TRE . Filally a luly volume correspoldelce alalysis was performed to specifically evaluate reyistratiol accuracy il lulys. Results Results showed that elastic reyistratiol was always satisfactory both qualitatively ald qualtitatively TRE after elastic reyistratiol averaye value of mm remailed comparable ald oftel smaller thal voxel resolutiol. Luly volume variatiols were well estimated by elastic reyistratiol averaye volume ald celtroid errors of ald mm respectively . Conclusions Our results demolstrate that this method is able to estimate luly deformatiols il thorax MVCT with al accuracy withil mm comparable or smaller thal the voxel dimelsiol of the kVCT ald MVCT imayes. It could be used to estimate luly parelchyma dose variatiols il thoracic Tomotherapy. Background Helical Tomotherapy
