tailieunhanh - Báo cáo nghiên cứu nông nghiệp " Development of Better Management Practices for Catfish Aquaculture in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam "
The culture of striped catfish, Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (Sauvage), or “ca tra” in Vietnamese in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, can be considered as a unique aquatic farming system in many ways. Production is the fastest growth recorded in any aquaculture sector, ever, based on a single species, superseding the production per unit for any form of primary production. Stripped catfish aquaculture now need to be improved in many aspects and environmental issues need to be paid more attention to ensure the sustainable development. These problems can be solved through the implementation of Better Management Practices (BMPs) for groups of smallholder farmers in cooperation with medium and large. | Collaboration for Agriculture and Rural Development CARD Program DEMONSTRATION AND EVALUATION OF BETTER MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN MEKONG DELTA VIETNAM Project title Development of Better Management Practices for Catfish Aquaculture in the Mekong Delta Vietnam Project code CARD 001 07 VIE Authors Vo Minh Son1 Bui Minh Tam1 Phan Thanh Lam1 Brett A. Stripped catfish aquaculture now need to be improved in many aspects and environmental issues need to be paid more attention to ensure the sustainable development. These problems can be solved through the implementation of Better Management Practices BMPs for groups of smallholder farmers in cooperation with medium and large scale farmers. The implementation of BMP guidelines has a positive impact on catfish farms such as application of biological safety enhancing the management offish ponds reducing the food conversion factor FCR reducing environmental degradation minimising the use of chemicals and antibiotics. However BMPs have not helped farmers sell catfish products at higher price than the market price. Therefore in the future there should be BMP clusters created to establish linkages between the groups who adopt BMP to improve market access. There should be a national BMP program to
