Hungary has followed the general European trend of reducing the number of acute hospital beds, both through real reductions and through bed reallocations to different types of services. The capacity for long-term nursing care in both the inpatient and outpatient setting is still considered insufficient and thus unable to meet the needs of the ageing population.
