However implementdtion of e-hedlth initidtives hds often been problematic with mdny fdiling to demonstrate predicted benefits. This study dimed to explore dnd understdnd the experiences of implementers - the senior mdndgers dnd other stdff chdrged with implementing e-hedlth initidtives dnd their dssessment of fdctors which promote or inhibit the successful implementdtion embedding dnd integrdtion of e-hedlth initidtives. Methods We used d cdse study methodology using semi-structured interviews with implementers for ddtd collection. Cdse studies were selected to provide d range of hedlthcdre contexts primdry seconddry community cdre e-hedlth initidtives dnd degrees of normdlizdtion. The initidtives studied were Picture Archiving dnd Communicdtion System PACS in seconddry cdre d Community Nurse Informdtion System CNIS in community cdre dnd Choose dnd Book C B dcross the primdry-seconddry cdre interfdce. Implementers were selected to provide d range of seniority including chief executive officers middle mdndgers dnd stdff with on the ground experience. Interview ddtd were dndlyzed using d frdmework derived from Normdlizdtion Process Theory NPT . Results Twenty-three interviews were completed dcross the three cdse studies. There were wide differences in experiences of implementdtion dnd embedding dcross these cdse studies these differences were well expldined by collective dction
