The growth curves of these trees were compared with those of 10 uninfested trees in the same stand to find temporal correlations between growth trends and the disease progress. Before 1983 incidence of mistletoe was insignificant but increased drastically thereafter. The growth patterns of the infested and the uninfested trees did not differ significantly before the epidemic began. During the exponential growth of the mistletoe population growth increment of the infested trees decreased continuously whereas growth of the control trees remained regular. It can be concluded that a high degree of mistletoe attack has a negative effect on growth of the host trees.
