When the groundwork for the fi fth edition of Clinical Periodontology and Implant Dentistry began in early 2007, it became clear that we had reached a fork in the road. It has always been my intention that each successive edition of this work should refl ect the state of the art of clinical periodontology and, in doing such, should run the gamut of topics within this subject area.
