Between transposition of the Directive and the implementation of their passport, non-EU AIFMs may manage EU AIFs if permitted by national regimes in the EU. Moreover climate change is likely to negatively affect disaster trends in the region. The hurricanes season of 2008 demonstrated tragically the Caribbean region s exposure and vulnerability to disasters. Hurricanes and tropical storms devastated parts of Haiti and Cuba three hurricanes made landfall on Cuba in less than three months and also caused important damages in Jamaica the Cayman Islands and Turks and Caicos. Hurricanes floods and mudslides claimed more than 800 lives in the region with Haiti particularly affected.
