They found out that after a person has had a disease he seldom gets it again. He is said to be immune from the disease. This means that his body has developed a way of fighting the germs. However people do not seem to become immune from colds. This fact puzzled scientists for some time. The scientists already knew that the cold is caused by a very tiny kind of germ called a virus.
