In the case of the recipe example the recipe headlines were formatted as 24-pt. headlines. As shown in Figure 17 this size is too large for TOC entries. You have a number of options for formatting TOC entries. Once you generate the TOC you can reformat the text any way you see fit or you can modify the paragraph styles in the TOC document only. For a third solution you can also create new paragraph styles in the TOC document that are more appropriate for the layout. Any new paragraph styles that you create will be listed in the Table of Contents dialog box. In the Style section of the Table of Contents dialog box you can use the new paragraph styles to modify the appearance of the loaded paragraph styles. In Figure 18 the loaded Course Name paragraph style is being modified by the TOC Course paragraph style note the Entry Style text box . Here s the concept in a nutshell. A TOC is created based on text that is formatted with specific paragraph styles in the documents that make up a book. Sometimes those paragraph styles are not appropriate for the TOC layout they re too big or too small etc. To correct this you can create new paragraph styles in the TOC document only. Those new paragraph styles will be listed in the Table of Contents dialog box where you can use them to modify the loaded paragraph styles. Figure 19 shows the same data reformatted with two new paragraph styles.
