There are hundreds of species of plant material which are appropriate for bonsai. Many of them have subspecies called varieties . 2. Many of the species appropriate for bonsai are genetically dwarfed. This means that they have been genetically engineered to produce smaller leaves and shorter internodes. 3. Not every species will grow in every climate or in every growing condition. For best results determine which species perform best in your particular climate and growing conditions. B.
