tailieunhanh - Focus on advanced english C.A.E teacher's book 4

The vocabulary component of the course is designed to develop students' awareness and ability across a wide range of vocabulary skills. The first section focuses on effective dictionary skills, as a key foundation for further vocabulary development. Subsequent sections feature a variety of topic vocabulary and idioms, and there are also three separate strands which run throughout the book: word formation (including word families, collocation and phrasal verbs). | Learning Focus 2 21 Exam Skills Paper 1 This note is intended to make it clear to students how relevant the vocabulary analysis work in this section is to the CAE Reading paper. There is no need to focus on exam tasks at this stage but it is important that when tackling reading texts in later units students remember to consider whether a word is important to understanding or not and that they are encouraged to apply the strategies for guessing meaning. Learning Focus 2 Planning for Writing This section continues the series on language skills and is intended to start students thinking about the different reasons for writing and the choices which can be made in terms of format style and layout. It also highlights the importance of careful planning which is particularly relevant to the writing tasks in CAE Paper 2. Exercises 1-4 provide an opportunity to review the main characteristics of written communication. There may well be different viewpoints on some issues but the discussion of the ifs and buts will be as useful as any clear-cut answers. Students often lack the patience to plan before they begin writing. They may also feel that the task will take much longer if they do so which is usually not the case. In exercises 5-6 there is an opportunity to talk through the importance of planning effectively especially in an exam and in exercise 7 students can practise their planning. You may find it helpful to ask your students to submit both the plan and the final version of the writing task in written work they do in the future. Exam Skills Paper 2 This note is intended to underline the relevance of the various tasks in this section to the CAE Writing paper. There is no need to focus on exam tasks at this stage but it is important that when tackling writing tasks in later units students remember the choices which can be made in terms of format style and layout and the importance of careful planning.
