101 QUICK AND EASY SECRETS FOR USING YOUR DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHS- P6:Millions of people around the world have many photos stored on their laptop and desktop computers, external hard drives, CDs and DVDs, and flash drives. Most images are just sitting there idle, waiting for the world to see them. Some have been unused for years. Up until now there has been no guide to help people find ways to use these photos. | Preparing Your Photos for Use II TABLE MEMORY CAPACITY OF VARIOUS STORAGE DEVICES Media One page Microsoft Word document Small JPEG photo for Internet High-res JPEG photo High-res TIFF photo CD capacity DVD capacity single-sided Flash drive Average computer hard drive Large external hard drive Size 1 kilobyte KB 20 kilobytes 1 000 kilobytes or 1 megabyte MB 24 megabytes 700 megabytes 4 700 megabytes or gigabytes GB 500 megabytes to 64 gigabytes 100 gigabytes 1 000 gigabytes or 1 terabyte TB Organizing Photos on Your Computer The first thing you have to do before you organize your photos on your computer is get them there. Machines live and then they die You ll probably want to keep all of your original pictures in one folder on your computer. If you re using a PC that folder is called My Pictures. On a Mac it s called Pictures. Each time you download pictures from your camera to your computer you can opt to create a folder inside your Pictures or My Pictures folder with the name of the place where the pictures were taken. For example I took a Caribbean cruise in 2008. I took pictures at each port I visited. When I got back from the port I downloaded my pictures into a folder named Caribbean inside my folder for 2008 which is in my Pictures folder . I added a folder inside the Caribbean folder and downloaded the images into it for each port I visited. When I got home my pictures were organized as shown in Figure . 12 Preparing Your Photos for Use Ddle Modified B Barbados Today 8 21 PM Dec 25 2008 8 55 AM MB Folder Cano. .aw file a to Dec 25 2008 8 55 AM MB file a Dec 25 2008 8 55 AM MB file ns
