tailieunhanh - Calibration approach for estimation of area under Jhum cultivation in India

Jhum or shifting cultivation, which is widespread in the North East India and some parts of Orissa, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh, is a primitive practice of cultivation. It involves clearing vegetative/forest cover on land/slopes of hills, drying and burning it before onset of monsoon and cropping on it thereafter. After harvesting is over, the land is left fallow and vegetation regeneration is allowed on it till the plot becomes reusable for the purpose of cultivation in a cycle. |
