Based on the analysis of indicators that reflect the status of achieving the goals and plans for sustainable development of the EU and Ukraine for the period 2001-2019 modern trends in the economic social environmental and managerial components of sustainable development are identified. The results of the study point to several major trends and provide a new picture of the strategic planning of member states for sustainable development policies. It is worth highlighting the gradual approach of countries to the average level of achievement for all goals among the trends. An upward trend among EU countries is observed in achieving SDG 1 SDG 10. In general the sustainable development goals cause certain difficulties or significant difficulties and the main challenges for the EU countries are SDG 11-13. Ukraine mainly faces some or significant difficulties
