Characterization of cultivars using bio-chemical markers has been successfully used for selection of improved cultivars in mango for breeding programs. The study was conducted at Horticultural research station, Venkataramannagudem for evaluating the variability of mango cultivars to conserve the elite ones and to identify the superior genotypes based on fruit bio-chemical markers for future crop improvement. Thirty four cultivars were characterized using bio-chemical fruit markers in subsequent years to know the genetic diversity in mango. The cultivar, Cherukurasam recorded highest TSS, total sugars and non-reducing sugars and the cultivar Banganapalli-1 recorded maximum TSS: acid ratio and reducing sugars indicating that these cultivars could be used as a source for quality improvement. The cultivars Chinnarasam and Banganapalli-1 recorded maximum βcarotene content which can be used as a source of carotenoid content.
