The parturient paresis is a production disease in high yielding lactating cattle during its first 24-72 hrs of parturition or during last few days of pregnancy in sheep/goat, characterized by acute deficiency of ionized calcium in the blood resulting in progressive neuromuscular dysfunction with flaccid paralysis and death in 2-3 days.
