The daily average concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere rose above 400 parts per million (ppm) for the first time on record in 2013, up from 280 ppm before the Industrial Revolution. The CO2 fertilization hypothesis stipulates that rising atmospheric CO2 has a positive effect on tree growth due to increasing availability of carbon. Hence, an attempt was made to understand the response of C. inophyllum seedlings to the elevated CO2 condition when they are grown in nutrient rich soils.
