Infectious diseases have major adverse effects on livestock production, both in terms of economics and on animal welfare. 10-25 % loss in milk production efficiency has been reported in tuberculosis infected animals. Udder infections alone account for annual economic loss of Rs. crores incurred by dairy industry in India.
