tailieunhanh - Activity of antioxidant enzymes in the liver of wild boars (Sus scrofa) from a selenium-deficient area depending on sex, age, and season of the year
The aim of this study was to compare the activity of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and total and selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase (total GSH-Px and Se-GSH-Px) in the liver of wild boars (Sus scrofa) selected from a selenium-deficient area with respect to season of the year, sex, and age. | Turkish Journal of Biology Turk J Biol (2015) 39: 129-138 © TÜBİTAK doi: Research Article Activity of antioxidant enzymes in the liver of wild boars (Sus scrofa) from a selenium-deficient area depending on sex, age, and season of the year 1 2 1, 3 Dorota JANKOWIAK , Renata PILARCZYK , Radosław DROZD *, Bogumiła PILARCZYK , 3 4 5 6 3 Agnieszka TOMZA-MARCINIAK , Gabriela WYSOCKA , Izabella RZĄD , Arleta DROZD , Jarosław KUBA 1 Department of Immunology, Microbiology, and Physiological Chemistry, West Pomeranian University of Technology, Szczecin, Poland 2 Laboratory of Biostatistics, West Pomeranian University of Technology, Szczecin, Poland 3 Department of Animal Reproduction, Biotechnology, and Environmental Hygiene, West Pomeranian University of Technology, Szczecin, Poland 4 Department of Horticulture, Laboratory of Storage and Processing, Faculty of Environmental Studies and Agriculture, West Pomeranian University of Technology, Szczecin, Poland 5 Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection, University of Szczecin, Szczecin, Poland 6 Department of Biochemistry and Human Nutrition, Pomeranian Medical University, Szczecin, Poland Received: Accepted: Published Online: Printed: Abstract: The aim of this study was to compare the activity of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and total and selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase (total GSH-Px and Se-GSH-Px) in the liver of wild boars (Sus scrofa) selected from a selenium-deficient area with respect to season of the year, sex, and age. Only season had a significant effect on liver Se content. Liver selenium concentration in the wild boars was highest in spring ( µg/g wet weight) and lowest in winter ( µg/g wet weight) (P ). SOD activity was highly negatively correlated with selenium concentration in the winter (–; P ). The analysis of correlations
