The chromosome numbers were determined as 2n = 30 in all taxa. Karyological measurements were made in detail for the first time for all taxa. Chromosome counts were given for the first time for all taxa except D. cyri and D. strictus. A new chromosome number was determined for D. strictus. The intrachromosomal and interchromosomal karyotype asymmetries were estimated with MCA and CVCL values. Key words: Dianthus, Verruculosi, karyotype, asymmetry index 1. Introduction Dianthus L. is a large genus of the family Caryophyllaceae, with more than 300 species widespread around the world (Reeve, 1967; Bittrich, 1993; İlçim et al., 2013). The genus contains the following five sections in Turkey: Verruculosi Boiss., Leiopetali Boiss., Fimbriati Boiss., Dentati Boiss., and Carthusiani Boiss., (Reeve, 1967). Section Verruculosi, characterized by the verruculose calyx (Boissier, 1867; Reeve, 1967), includes nine taxa in Turkey.
