In many cases however you need far more latitude when coloring and most importantly shading objects. Most shading is accomplished using blends of two or more colors usually referred to as gradients or blends. Blends add depth sometimes called dimensionality to otherwise flat artwork. Blends come in several different types. The two most common types of gradient are linear blends and radial blends. You can apply those gradients to an object by choosing them in the Fill Color Swatches panel when an object is selected. The terms gradient and blend are used interchangeably. Flash documentation uses both gradient and blend both terms mean a smooth transition from one color to another. With the object selected click the Fill button in the Tools panel and choose one of the gradient swatches from the pop-up Color Swatch panel. Built-in gradient swatches You can also apply a gradient fill by selecting the Paint Bucket tool in the Tools panel choosing a gradient swatch as the fill color and then clicking the objects that you want to fill with the gradient. Finally you can select an object on the Stage and choose Linear or Radial from the Type menu of the Color panel the object will be filled with a gradient of the last-used colors. Choose Linear or Radial in the Type menu to apply a gradient fill to a selected object.
