The epipelic algae of Çatal Lake were studied between June and October 2002. It is situated 1050 m above sea level. The lake has an area of km2 and a depth of about 5 m (Figure 1). Ankara Giresun TURKEY The present paper reveals quantitative characteristics of the algal community structure and provides insights into the factors controlling the species diversity and species composition of epipelic algae in Çatal Lake and contributes to the algal flora of Turkey.
