Yen 110 US 1 VND 15 500 average in 2003 PREFACE In response to the request from the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam the Government of Japan decided to conduct the Study on Urban Transport Master Plan and Feasibility Study in Ho Chi Minh Metropolitan Area and entrusted the study to the Japan International Cooperation Agency JICA . JICA selected and dispatched a team to Vietnam between August 2002 and June 2004 which was headed by Mr. IWATA Shizuo of ALMEC Corporation. The team conducted the study in collaboration with the Vietnamese counterpart team including field surveys traffic demand forecast formulation of a master plan and feasibility studies on the selected priority projects and then held a series of discussions with the officials concerned of the Government of Vietnam. Upon returning to Japan the team duly finalized the study and delivered this report. I hope that this report will contribute to the development of urban transport in Ho Chi Minh Metropolitan Area and to the enhancement of friendly relationship between our two countries. Finally I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the officials concerned of the Government of Vietnam for their close cooperation extended to the team.
