We have taught Chemistry and Physics for Anesthesia for nearly 10 years to more than 150 nurse anesthesia students. During that time, we struggled, because there was no text that supported our course. The importance of the physical sciences in anesthesia goes without saying, and every one of our students knows this. While we were continually impressed by the ability and motivation of our students, we were struck by the obvious: these students possessed only a minimal background in chemistry and almost no background in physics.
