Main forms of age discrimination are: direct (e.g. only people of a certain age will be employed) indirect (e.g. all employees need a specified level of IT skills without paid training). The Age Discrimination Act 2004 makes it unlawful to discriminate at or after the point of offer. Legislation in several countries sets boundaries and has reduced overt discrimination but evidence of ‘subtle’ practice persists (e.g. job ad language, promotion, behaviour).
